Just to get out...

This weekend I had my two boys so I was unable to join the group on the Chance Cove/Bull Arm trip.  Instead I loaded up my boys and my gear and took of to Grandma's house in Norman's Cove.  It's been a while since we were out there so of course Grandma had no troubles keeping the boys busy while I took off for a quick paddle.

At first I took off North planning to paddle into Long Cove but the winds were pretty strong Northerly so I decided to turn around and head back toward Chapel Arm.

Nothing too exciting but I like the scenery here and there was just enough swell to keep me interested.

I recently finished my Level 2 Sea Kayaking course so I spent some time messing around close to the shore practicing some of the things that I've learned...and need to work on.
Nice partly cloudy sky... looks awesome!

Just a little less than halfway down there is a little cove where I stopped for a few minutes to relax and enjoy the view.

The winds were gusting pretty good so it took me no time to get back to the beach, and head back to Grandma's house.

I LOVE my Norkapp!  I'm glad Dean convinced me to go with this kayak for sure.  Now I will admit the ride in a glass boat does feel a little smoother but I never have trouble keeping up with my fiberglass friends and I have half the worry they do about unexpected rocks.  I think there are advantages and disadvantages to both, but If anyone is just starting out or upgrading from a Rec boat my personal advise is to go with a good plastic boat.  It's much more forgiving while your learning how to control your kayak...and if you get a good plastic boat you'll have no trouble keeping up with your fiberglass friends.

The last of her kind...

I really enjoy solo paddles on nice days like this.
It's the perfect way to forget about everything else and have an hour to just yourself to relax and enjoy!

  1. We weren't too far apart then Shane as we were in the same neck of the woods so to speak. Glad to see you got out.
